DESIGN





Rock Travel Bag


A messenger-style travel bag designed around the two things travelers need most: security and organization. Built with a structured form and thoughtful storage solutions, the Rock Bag keeps everything in its place from the airport to the street.

Materials: Nylon Taslan with Durable Water Repellent (DWR), Ripstop Nylon
Hardware: YKK® Nylon Coil Zipper
Key Features: Threaded lock front pocket secures important items behind a custom screw-thread closure, designed to prevent easy access without intentional effort and easily swappable for different styles. Slide-in back compartment keeps flat essentials like documents and tablets hidden and protected. Three internal dividers keep contents organized and separated during travel. Small item pouch inside for keys, wallet, and cards. Adjustable tensioner designed to fit the 2" strap for easy height adjustment and a secure carry. Multiple zipper pockets inside and out for fast access to everyday essentials.

PROCESS


Concept Sketch + Rapid Prototyping


Through concept sketching, I wanted to use striking colors for style while maintaing the functions for a travel bag. I created rapid prototypes of each iteration that tested the threaded component as well as testing for size, function, and patterning.








Tech Pack + Bill of Materials (BOM)

After prototyping, I created the patterns and tech pack in Adobe Illustrator to figure out sizing, seam allowances, and manufacturing. The Bill of Materials (BOM) helped me get a sense of material costs and callouts for different components needed for creating the bag.







Final Prototype Phase

Through multiple prototypes, I resolved pattern issues and selected durable ripstop nylon as the lining material for storing items inside the bag.
